2. Create A Tradestation Account

Step 1
Use this promotional link https://www.tradestation.com/promo/jcoleman/
In the top right corner, click on the orange Open an Account button.
Note: The link provides you with 10% off of your trading fees with TradeStation, up to what you paid for the system.

Step 2
From the left hand side underneath the heading, New Customers, click on the blue Register button.

Step 3
Fill out the form to provide Customer Profile information.
Note: If you are signing up by using the promotional link, then there are three fields that are pre-filled for you (marked with orange boxes in the image below). You do not need to alter these preselected answers.

Step 4
Select the Account Setup options that you prefer.
Most J Traders select the following options:
Account Type
Select INDIVIDUAL
Asset Class
Leave EQUITIES & OPTIONS selected
Unselect all other options
Equities Account Settings
Leave Margin Trading selected
Unselect Options Trading
Commission Plan
TS SELECT
Sales Representative
Leave the pre-selected Sales Representative

Step 5
Fill out your Personal Information. Then click next.

Step 6
Read the questions on the Employment Information page and answer them honestly.
Note: Most J Traders are not professional traders, and typically select the following options. Your employment situation may be different and require different selections.

Step 7
Read and answer the Financials & Trading Experience section questions carefully and honestly.
Note: Most J Traders are employed, but trade on the side, so they often select the following option:
From the Style dropdown menu they select the option Employed, but trade on the side
Answer this question according to your current situation.

Step 8
Select whether or not you want to provide a Trusted Contact to TradeStation.
Note: For most people, there is no need to provide TradeStation with a Trusted Contact.

Step 9
On the Account Summary page go through and review all of your submitted info to verify that it is accurate.

Step 10
Honestly fill out and sign the Account Agreements page.
Step 11
Move on to Funding Your Account (the next lesson).
IMPORTANT NOTE
Funding your TradeStation account can sometimes be delayed. TradeStation is often verifying your account, which may delay your funding process, so be patient as you work through the various options for funding your account.

Funding Your Account
Step 1
At the end of your sign up process, click on the blue Deposit Funds button.
Note: for many people this option will not work, since TradeStation is still verifying your account, so you may not be able to fund your account immediately. If this option doesn’t work for you, wait for at least 30 minutes and proceed to Funding TradeStation Option II.

Step 2
Follow the prompts to link your external account.
Note: If the funding page does not load, or crashes at some point in the process, then you may want to proceed to Funding Option II.
Step 3
Once the external account has been approved, then login to your account at TradeStation.com.
From the green menu click on the button Transfer Funds.

Step 4
From the column Transfer Cash, select the option Smart Transfer.

Step 5
Select the appropriate options from the various dropdowns. A minimum of $100.00 is necessary in order to proceed with the rest of the TradeStation setup. But remember your data feed expense is going to be coming out of your tradestation account so make sure it is adequately funded to handle monthly payments.
Note: When funding your TradeStation account, keep in mind that most J Traders use TradeStation as well as one other separate brokerage, such as TD Ameritrade, for trading.

Funding Your Account Option 2
Step 1
Visit TradeStation.com and Login to your account.
Step 2
From the green menu near the top, click on the button Transfer Funds.
Note: If you cannot access the Transfer Funds tab then you may need to wait for a few hours and try again. Sometimes this can take several days while TradeStation manually approves your account.

Step 3
From the column External Accounts, select the option Add New Account.

Step 5
Follow the prompts to link your external account.
Note: If the funding page does not load, or crashes at some point in the process, then you may want to wait 24 hours and try again.
Step 6
Once the external account has been approved, then from the green menu click on the button Transfer Funds.

Step 7
From the column Transfer Cash, select the option Smart Transfer.

Step 8
Select the appropriate options from the various dropdowns.

Download the TradeStation Platform to Your Computer
Important Note: The TradeStation platform only works on Windows. If you have a Mac or other type of computer, then you won’t be able to install TradeStation.
Step 1
Login to TradeStation.com. From the green menu near the top, click on the button Download Software.

Step 2
Click the Download Platform button.

Step 3
Select the data sources you wish to use.
Note: Often, the data are not displayed at this point, but will be offered at a later step.

Step 4
Answer the Are you a professional subscriber? Questions, if they are displayed.
Note 1: Most J Traders are not professional traders, and typically select the following options. Your situation may be different and require different selections.
Note 2: Often this step is not displayed for people as they go through the workflow.

Step 5
If correct, confirm that you are not a professional trader.

Step 6
Click on the tab U.S. Market Data.
Important Note: This page may not show up for you! If this page does not show up for you, then skip to Step 11. THEN later, you’ll need to reference the lesson Troubleshooting U.S. Market Data in order to set up your data feed.

Step 7
From the options listed, select the dropdown Equity and Equity Options Data.

Step 8
In order to trade with real-time data using Jake’s system, these are the data subscriptions that Jake uses. Without these real-time data feeds, TradeStation data will have a 20 minute delay.
In the OTC Markets Data section, select the option OTC Markets Real-Time Data Package #3.
A pop up will appear when you select this, click Continue to confirm the NASDAQ Real-Time Data Package #2 selection.
Note: Real-time data services include a subscription fee.

Step 9
Click Review and Save Changes to move on.

This is what the Software and Data Subscriptions summary looks like for many J Traders:

If you need to add U.S. Market Data to your TradeStation account, then follow these steps.
Step 1
From the main menu, select the option Customer Profile.

Step 2
From the left hand menu, select the option Software & Data Subscriptions.

Step 3A
For some people, TradeStation may request additional information at this point, asking you to fill out the Are You a Professional Subscriber questionnaire.
If you DO NOT need to fill this out, then proceed to Step 4.
If you DO need to fill this questionnaire, then proceed to Step 3B.

Step 3B
Most J Traders are not professional traders, and typically select the following options. Your situation may be different and require different selections.

Step 4
Select the Edit button in order to edit your data subscriptions.

Step 5
Click on the tab U.S. Market Data.

Step 6
From the options listed, select the dropdown Equity and Equity Options Data.

Step 7
In order to trade with real-time data using Jake’s system, these are the data subscriptions that Jake uses. Without these real-time data feeds, TradeStation data will have a 20 minute delay.
In the OTC Markets Data section, select the option OTC Markets Real-Time Data Package #2.
A pop up will appear when you select this, click Continue to confirm the NASDAQ Real-Time Data Package #3 selection.

Then click continue and confirm.
Step 8
Verify that the data subscriptions are correct and you are done.

Step 10
Agree to and sign the legal agreements for the data subscriptions.
IMPORTANT: Often the legal agreements do not show up at this point. After you have downloaded and installed the TradeStation 9.5 platform, you will need to agree to and sign these agreements before you can access the platform.
When you log in to the TradeStation platform for the first time, a pop-up will appear that will guide you to the agreements. Often this link DOES NOT work on the first day, and you may need to wait 24 hours.
Step 11
Under the section Download the all new TradeStation® platform, click on the button Download Now.
Note: The algorithms of the J Coleman Trading System are built for this version of TradeStation, so if you wish to use those algorithms then this is the version that you will need.

Step 12
Follow the installation instructions to install TradeStation 10.
Step 13
Login to the TradeStation 10 platform.
Step 14
From the main menu of the TradeStation platform, select Help, then click on the option About TradeStation.

Step 13
Take a screenshot of your Customer Number and Network ID.

In order to connect the J Coleman Trading System algorithms to your TradeStation account, we need to know your TradeStation Customer number and Network ID. Please submit that ASAP in the academy .
